You are correct Tim the amc-20 in the MJ's was a special piece it was only used one year 1986 and only came in the ton package. it was based off the stronger axle but when amc sold jeep the axle was switch to a dana 44 in 87 for the ton package all ton package comanche's came with 4.10 gears and a 6cylinder engine. my MJ has 4.10 gears front so should have 4.10 in the rear but I can't get the cover off 5 of the bolts are so tight they wont budge one striped three broke the torx bits. I don't know what I am gonna do I really wanted to checck the gearing plus I need to get the cover off to put in the locker. so I guess tomorrow I will get out the grinder and grind off the heads and easy out what is left or just drill the dang things out one or the other. might try grinding flat spots on the head and use a wrench to see if I can break them loose but a impact and vise grips didn't work and I used both together. I hate junkyard stuff I may just save myself the trouble and buy that 8.25 I was looking at regear it lock it and be done with it. pullNpay is open tomorrow and they have a 8 XJ's in right now hmmm.

When I have troubles with bolts like that I spray it with PB blaster let it sit for a day then try again. If its still to tight I try to work it a little then spray it with PB blaster. Some times I can get it out after it sitting for 1 day some times it takes 2 or 3 days. It also would help to go out a few times a day and spray it. That PB blaster is some good stuff

Hey if you want an amc 20 with a limited slip locker there is 1 in denver for $100.00. They say its been rebuilt but its currently set up for a spring over axle on a yj but that can always be changed. they did not say what the gear size is on it right now. http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/1849354887.html
